Phare Health
Phare Health is an AI startup focused on improving the financial infrastructure of healthcare organizations. By building intelligent tools that help hospitals navigate complex reimbursement systems, the company aims to reduce administrative friction and strengthen hospital finances. I led the prototyping of the digital experience prior to development, and in addition, I worked directly with the founders to concept and prototype a product feature focused on streamlining insurance pre-approvals.

The Challenge
Healthcare reimbursement and authorization systems are notoriously complex. Hospitals often spend enormous amounts of time navigating payer contracts, assembling documentation, and submitting approval requests—processes that are slow, repetitive, and prone to delays. Phare Health’s challenge was twofold: clearly communicate a sophisticated AI platform through their website, and design an early concept for an AI-powered workflow that could help hospitals prepare faster, more accurate pre-approval submissions.
The Approach
To support the website build, I collaborated closely with the design team to translate the brand’s visual language into a structured digital pattern library. Working alongside graphic designers, we identified the core design components that would form the foundation of the site and built out layout structures, interface components, and visual patterns.
The Results
The digital pattern library helped ensure a cohesive and scalable design system that could be consistently applied throughout the site. The whiteboarding and prototyping work helped shape early thinking around Phare Health’s AI-assisted pre-authorization workflow which explored how the platform could intelligently reference payer contracts, gather supporting materials, and structure requests to reduce the administrative burden on hospital staff. Together, these efforts helped bring clarity to both the company’s digital presence and product vision, contributing to the company’s growth and its eventual acquisition by R21 in 2025.
